Community Outreach

The mission of A.A.U.W. is to advance equality for women and girls.  On the fourth Tuesday of each month, join us at 7:00 pm over a cup of coffee.   We will discuss worthwhile causes and ways we can reach out to help women improve their lives. The book and accompanying CD, Half the Sky by Nicholas Kristoff and Sheryl Wu Dunn, will be used as a resource. We will meet at the home of Janet Caputo.

Great Decisions

The AAUW Great Decisions Group meets on the second Thursday of the month for eight months at a member’s home at 7:00 pm. Participants may purchase a Foreign Policy Association publication, which is divided into eight current event topics.  Each month one topic is discussed and explored to keep everyone aware of world affairs.

Knitting, Crocheting and Craft Group

The Knitting, Crocheting, and Crafts group meets on the third Thursday of the month at 7:00 pm at a member’s home. Join us to share ideas and patterns as well as have informal, lively discussions of every day issues.  You can learn basic knitting or tackle challenging projects.  Come see what new projects members will pursue this winter.

Mah Jongg

Beginners and more proficient players please join us at 7:00 PM on the second Tuesday of each month.  Our goal is to have fun while helping one another become better players.

Literature Group

Our literature group meets monthly on the first Thursday at the homes of various members.  Book selections are determined by group consensus and can range from debut novels to current biographies to classics.  Discussions are lively and as members of lit group we are encouraged to move outside our “reading comfort zone.”  We actively deconstruct selections not only for their meaning but also to analyze the elemnts that worked (and those that didn’t.)  This Group offers us different interpretations of each book through in depth discussion with our members.  A highlight of the summer events is the Literature Summer Camp which includes a themed dinner meeting coordinated with the book being discussed that month.  We also host a Book & Author Luncheon in the fall.
